The Most Important Thing You Need to Know
The most important thing you need to know in this life is that the word of God is what will judge every human being on the last day. No one will be judged by church doctrines, religious beliefs, church positions or titles, status in life, family traditions, human wisdom, intellect, debates, and opinions. The word of God is what will judge every single human being and creature in heaven and on earth, including Satan and the fallen angels.
“He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” John 12:48-50
God’s word is his law and oath. God is not a man to lie and speak carelessly (Numbers 23:19). He keeps his word perfectly. He has exalted his word even above all his name. His word will impartially judge all of us. Therefore, to live a life of ignorance of the word of God is folly and dangerous.
“You have magnified Your word above all Your names.” Psalm 138:2
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11
“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19
If God’s word will judge us, shouldn’t it be the most important thing in our lives? Shouldn’t we prioritize it daily? Yet men ignore God’s word and give more value to books written by men whose knowledge is temporary and ends on earth and will pass away with the world. Only God’s word will endure forever, as the Lord Jesus said.
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Matthew 24:35
“For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Matthew 5:18
Make the important thing, the important thing.
The word of God will be our final judge. The wise man will make the study, knowledge, and obedience of all of God’s word his utmost priority in life to prepare himself for eternity. There will be no excuse or escape for anyone. When the Bible tells us to meditate on his word day and night, it is for our own good so we can save our souls. It is God’s word that makes us wise for salvation (2 Timothy 3:15).
“And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalm 19:7
True wisdom for life and eternity only comes from God, and God has spoken in His word, the Bible, which tells us, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). And what is the source of wisdom? The fear of God.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
The fool ignores what’s truly important for what does not matter.
Fearing God begins us on the journey to wisdom. The one who does not fear God has not even begun to be wise. It is the man who fears God and understands that he is the final judge of all living things who will desire to know God’s mind and God’s will for his life and eternity so that he will not miss it. That is the truly wise man.
“We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” 1 John 4:6
“The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.” John 8:47
“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:17
But the foolish man chooses to “wing it.” He thinks his own wisdom will be enough. Yet God says that the wisdom of man is foolishness to God and that the foolishness of God is wiser than men (1 Corinthians 1:25; 1 Corinthians 3:19). He goes into eternity with his own noose in his hand since he never sought to know what God required of him, or thought his own wisdom would save him.
“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” 1 Corinthians 1:25
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19
“These things you have done and I kept silence; you thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.” Psalm 50:21
Nothing is more important than your soul.
God’s word is his mind and his will. Jesus told us that his word will judge us in the last day. “It is written” is what will judge us, not what a bishop or church taught. There is no wisdom, justice, or truth outside God’s holy word. When we don’t know God’s word, we will sin against him. God, through Hosea, says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).
“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.” Proverbs 30:5
Ignorance will lead many to damnation. Ignorance is sin. If you’re ignoring and taking lightly God’s word, you’re destroying your soul and piling up testimony against you for judgment day. The word of God alone will make you wise, teach you how to be holy, and prepare you for judgment day because the Bible says without holiness no man will see the Lord.
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15
“Not everyone saying to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of My Father in the heavens. Many will say to Me in that the day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare unto them, ‘I never knew you; depart you from Me, those working lawlessness.'” Matthew 7:21-23
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock. And the rain came down, and the torrents came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it did not fall, for its foundation had been lain upon the rock. And everyone hearing these words of Mine and not acting on them, he will be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. And the rain came down, and the torrents came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell—and great was its collapse!” Matthew 7:24-27
