The Folly and Vanity of the Prosperity Gospel

The prosperity gospel only benefits those who preach it, greedy preachers merchandising souls and the gospel of Jesus for their bellies. The prosperity gospel is only believed by the simple-minded and covetous.

You can’t preach the prosperity gospel to the billionaires of this world, many of whom don’t worship Jesus. They already have all the wealth this world can offer.

The wealthiest people in this world are not born-again Christians. Most of them are atheists who worship themselves and their intellect or idols. These people already have wealth, health, and worldly success. Preaching to them a gospel and “Jesus” of health, wealth, and prosperity is ludicrous because they don’t need these things. Satan offers these things to his children too.

Jesus offers spiritual prosperity.

The need of the wealthy and the need of all human beings is not money but spiritual wealth, which only Jesus can offer. All men are spiritually poor without Jesus.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about money, food, clothes, and material things. God created this world, and he shall destroy it in the end. Jesus did not die to give us perishable things.

“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17

The gospel of Jesus Christ is about the salvation of souls from spiritual poverty, the bondage of sin, Satan, and eternal death, and the offer of eternal life after this world, something wealth and billions can’t buy or offer.

“…to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.” Acts 26:18

Jesus offers what no earthly prosperity can offer.

Jesus offers what no money can offer, which is salvation and eternal life. Jesus offers an entirely new kingdom, his kingdom, which is eternal. He did not die to give us the things of this world, which is under the power of the wicked one. Satan is the god of this world, and he is the one who offers worldly things. Jesus offers us something unsurpassed: an eternal, imperishable kingdom.

The kingdom of God is a real kingdom, and one day soon he shall create new heavens and a new earth, the new Jerusalem whose streets are pure gold and where nothing imperishable shall be. That’s the inheritance he has kept for his children. Those who choose the inheritance of this world from their father, the devil, will have no share in God’s kingdom.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5

We cannot serve God and money.

These preachers who have made the gospel of our Lord Jesus to be about money, cars, and worldly things Satan offers his children (perishable things) will have a lot to answer for on judgment day if they don’t repent and amend.

“Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Matthew 4:8-10

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth, riches).” Matthew 6:24
