Christianity Is a Relationship, Not an Event
Our walk with Jesus is a relationship, not an event. Repentance and holiness are a lifestyle, not an event.
Our relationship with Jesus is just that, a relationship. Our relationship with Jesus is compared to a marriage union. He is the bridegroom, and true believers are the bride. A relationship is a DAILY WALK and not an EVENT. A genuine wife is always loving her husband, faithful to him, and doing her best to please him and spend time with him. BUT if she only waits until she hears her husband is coming back from a long journey to start repenting of her adultery and evil deeds and to start keeping the house in order because he is coming back, it reveals that her heart was never his to begin with. The harlot in Proverbs 7:19 was unfaithful because her husband had gone away.
“Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey; he has taken a bag of money with him and will come home on the appointed day.” Proverbs 7:18-20
Relationship is revealed in daily routine.
If we truly love Jesus, we don’t need a rapture date to START repenting. That is actually ridiculous. We should always be ready to meet our Lord like the 5 wise virgins as a lifestyle. Christianity is not an event. We don’t get born again only for the rapture. We get saved to have a relationship with our Father and his Son, our bridegroom, and that relationship should be consistent and constant; otherwise, it is not real. Love does not increase based on a date. True love is constant. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
A bride does not wait till the last minute to prepare for her wedding. From the day she is betrothed, she is in love with her groom and constantly aiming to please him naturally and daily. She does not need an announcement of a wedding date to start repenting of her infidelity.
If we love Jesus, we should always be aiming to please him on a normal day as we work, do laundry, drive, cook, and clean, and even on a normal day when nothing extraordinary is happening in the world and there are no visions and dreams. A repentance triggered by a date is not real. Repentance comes from godly SORROW over sin. Sorrow produced by a date is suspicious.
“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” Revelation 19:7-8
Be a wise virgin.
The 5 wise virgins always had extra oil in their lamps. Even though they fell asleep when the bridegroom delayed, the moment they heard the midnight cry, they were ready. The 5 foolish virgins were rushing to buy oil when they heard the midnight cry, and they were shut out. They never were bride-worthy. Oil represents the Holy Spirit and a relationship with him. The Holy Spirit convicts believers of sin daily, teaches them how to please Jesus, and guides them into all truth. He is the Spirit of Truth and dwells within the believer who is his temple, sanctifying her and preparing her for her bridegroom’s return as she cooperates with him. This is a daily walk.
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.” Matthew 25:1-5
“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore, you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Matthew 24:42-44
