The Seed of God in the Believer Produces Holiness

The born-again Christians have received new life, resurrected life in Christ (Romans 6:5). They are born again (John 3:3), and the seed of God dwells in them (1 John 3:9). They are a new creature/creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Spirit of God, who is Holy, dwells in them (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 3:16).

“Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed (divine nature; from the Greek word for sperm) remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” 1 John 3:9

Paul says in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

The believer has Christ living in them. It is therefore not possible for the believer to be living in fornication, lying, stealing, drunkenness, greed, rape, taking advantage of and abusing others, and so forth because Christ CANNOT do such things.

The fruit of the spirit vs. the works of the flesh

Jesus cannot produce the works of the flesh in someone. It is impossible.

“But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not!” Galatians 2:17

The idea that one is a Christian but living a lifestyle of sin and corruption is unheard of in scripture and an insult to the work of Calvary. But it is a present reality and common teaching. Many say we are all sinners and cannot help but sin, but that’s a lie. If one has received the new birth, they cannot live the life of the old man. The Holy Spirit now dwelling in them will convict them and sanctify them and help them to live lives of increasing holiness.

This life of holiness is only possible for the born-again believer because his nature has been changed and he has God’s seed and spirit in him. It is not possible for the seed of God in a man to produce the works of the flesh and the devil. If this happens, it either means the person was never born again or they have allowed habitual unrepentant sin that has caused them to fall from grace and get into a backslidden state. The life of God is no longer flowing through them.

Ye shall know them by their fruit

“Without holiness no man shall see God” (Hebrews 12:14). Believers must produce the fruit of holiness in their lives to be recognized by God as his children, and this by the power of the Holy Spirit. Faith without works is dead. A tree is known by its fruit, not its professions. The life of God in a man produces the nature of God in that man from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the NEW MAN which WAS CREATED according to God, in TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS and HOLINESS.” Ephesians 4:20-24

“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, and filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.” Colossians 3:8-10
