What Does “Touch Not My Anointed” Really Mean?

“Touch not my anointed (Psalm 105:15)” is used by many men and women of God to threaten people into submission or any time they are questioned for false doctrine or spiritual abuses. These words were spoken by God to foreign kings regarding all the children of Israel, his chosen. Under the new covenant, all of us are ANOINTED (1 John 2:27). Jesus did not die to anoint some specific people and place them above others and above correction. All of us who are believers are chosen by the Lord. One’s position in church does not make them superior to others.

A position is about function and not superiority. Jesus said to his Apostles that they must not lord it over others but be servants.

Questioning or pointing out truth is not “touching the anointed.” Submission to any authority is applicable only if that authority is obeying God. We are not to submit to sin and false doctrine because then we are sinning against the Lord. Our ultimate authority is God’s word and the Lord himself, who is our HEAD. When God’s word is violated, we are not to submit to this. We must honor all authority but only IN THE LORD.

And in the gospel, we are all the redeemed; none is superior to the other. Again, one’s position is a function, not superiority. Submission must be in God’s ordained order, always in love, in the Lord, and all of us are to submit to one another in love, with Jesus as our head and master.

Have you given your life to Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? He loves us so much that he, our creator, left heaven and came to earth, dying for us on the cross, taking our sins upon him so that we may be forgiven and receive his righteousness. He conquered death by rising from the dead and made a way for us who were dead in sin to be reconciled back to the Father (God). What’s more, he has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven, where those who love him and obey him will spend eternity with him. Learn more here about how to be born again and have eternal life after this brief life on earth.
