Once Saved is not Always Saved
One of the most dangerous doctrines is that of “once saved always saved”.
Jesus made it clear in Matthew 7 that not all who call him LORD! LORD! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but those who do the will of the Father (obey him). In fact, in that scripture, he addressed many who had done mighty works in his name, which means they had once known him.
Jesus also prophesied that in the last days, there would be a great falling away of those who had once known the faith. He told us that only those who ENDURE TO THE END will be saved. It is not enough to believe once, we have to believe till the end. Our faith is sure only if it stands to the end (either death or the coming of the Lord). Many will turn away from the Lord who bought them to Satan. It is sad, but Jesus prophesied it saying that many false prophets would arise and deceive many.
We see it now as many churches preach a false gospel and false doctrines that are just about loving the world and the things of the world without any repentance and denying the Lordship of Jesus Christ and his death for our sins. They teach things that oppose God’s holy nature and slap him in the face.
Apostle Paul told us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling and to make our calling and election sure.
Only he who endures to the end will be saved
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:22-23
“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” Matthew 24:11-13
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Philippians 2:12
“Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:10-11
