The Partnership of the Godhead in Salvation of Souls

The Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—are all actively involved in the salvation of souls. It is a beautiful, mysterious, and synergetic partnership, and each does his role perfectly and in harmony.

1. The Father draws and gives souls to the Son:

No one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them and gives them to the Son. The Father is the originator of salvation.

“36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” John 6:36-37, 44, 65

“My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” John 10:29

2. The Son reveals the Father and keeps and gives his sheep eternal life.

2.1. The Son reveals the Father:

No one can know the Father unless Jesus reveals Him to them. It’s impossible to know God without Jesus since it is Jesus that reveals him. Those who are not born again cannot know the true God.

“All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” Matthew 11:27

“No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John 1:18

2.2. The Son gives his sheep eternal life.

The Son does the Father’s will by shepherding the sheep the Father gives him and giving them eternal life. Jesus knows his sheep.

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:38-40

“But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.” John 10:26-30

3. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin:

The Holy Spirit convicts souls of sin, showing men the need for a savior and pointing them to Jesus for salvation. The Holy Spirit always glorifies Jesus by leading souls to him.

“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” John 16:8-11

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14

Man’s Role in His Salvation:

It’s clear from scripture that man also has a role. He has to choose to respond to and cooperate with God in his salvation (repent, believe, obey, and abide). Although Jesus chose the 12 disciples, one of them was lost because he chose to follow Satan. God’s work in salvation does not hinder or overthrow our free will.

“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” John 17:12

“Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” John 6:67-70

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” John 15:4-6

Have you given your life to Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? He loves us so much that he, our creator, left heaven and came to earth, dying for us on the cross, taking our sins upon him so that we may be forgiven and receive his righteousness. He conquered death by rising from the dead and made a way for us who were dead in sin to be reconciled back to the Father (God). What’s more, he has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven, where those who love him and obey him will spend eternity with him. Learn more here about how to be born again and have eternal life after this brief life on earth.
