What Has Your Heart Is Your God
What has our heart and our devotion is our God. This can be determined by what we give our time to, not our professions. Our time is the greatest resource we have. What we give most of our time to reveals what we worship. This is why God tells us to redeem (make the most use of) the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).
“What you give your time to is what you worship,” Nathan Reynolds.
For many, their gods are social media, football, celebrities, TikTok, movies, news, politics, Netflix, sex, drugs, alcohol, family, etc. They devote more time, thought, and attention to these things than to God. But God demands that we love him with all that we are and have. Our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your HEART, with all your SOUL, with all your MIND, and with all your STRENGTH.’ This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30
- HEART: the middle/center of your being, thoughts, feelings, and desires/desire producer.
- SOUL: breath, life, inner being, your distinct identity, unique personhood, and individual personality.
- MIND: understanding, thoughts, intentions, imagination, mental activity, contemplations, reasoning, disposition.
- STRENGTH: abilities, power, might.
Our heart is our devotion and meditation
We are to meditate on his word day and night, continuously.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8
We are to set our minds on things above and not things below.
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:2-3
We are to seek those things which are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father, and we together with him.
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1
God wants our heart
If we worship Jesus, he must have all our devotion, or he is not Lord at all. Everything we do must be an act of love and devotion to him.
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Even when we do work or mundane things, our hearts and meditation should be upon him and heavenly things. But we cannot love him fully if our hearts have idols. We may profess him with our lips, but our hearts could be far from him. God is not interested in lip service because that is hypocrisy. What has our hearts has us. God wants our hearts.
“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” 1 John 5:21
“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.” Proverbs 23:26

Are you born again? Do you have eternal life?
Have you given your life to Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? He loves us so much that he, our creator, left heaven and came to earth, dying for us on the cross, taking our sins upon him so that we may be forgiven and receive his righteousness. He conquered death by rising from the dead and made a way for us who were dead in sin to be reconciled back to the Father (God). What’s more, he has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven, where those who love him and obey him will spend eternity with him.
