The Devil Did Not Make You Do It
The devil did not make you do it. He will not be present at the final judgment to take any blame. We are responsible for our actions.
This morning, the Holy Spirit gave me a deeper awareness in a new way of the fact that the devil will not be present at the final judgment. He will have already been cast into the lake of fire. The Holy Spirit, in His wisdom, has placed the two events side by side in the Book of Revelation, chapter 20. The devil is cast into the lake of fire in verse 10, and the final judgment follows in verse 11.
God, in his infinite wisdom, sentences Satan before he does men. Satan will not be present to be anyone’s scapegoat because he is not anyone’s scapegoat.
Many people love to blame the devil for their actions, but the devil NEVER makes anyone do anything. He does not have that power. The devil is a tempter (Matthew 4:3) and an accuser (Revelation 12:10), but he never forces or makes anyone act. Human beings are responsible and accountable for their actions. God has given us free will, and this means we always make the ultimate choice to sin. Therefore, when we stand before God, he shall be just when he judges us based on what we have done.
“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The devil piles on pressure through temptation, but the Bible tells us that God provides a way to escape every temptation so that we can withstand it. God does NOT ALLOW us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. The Bible also tells us to RESIST the devil, and he WILL FLEE from us. Above and before all these, Jesus died for us to give us power over sin and the devil.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
“Behold, I have given you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall in any wise harm you.” Luke 10:19
With all these graces made available to us by God, starting with the sacrifice of Jesus for sins, we have no excuse before God. He sets us up to win! No one can blame the devil for anything. Every man shall carry his own burden before the Lord.
“Each one should test his own work. Then he will have reason to boast in himself alone and not in someone else. For each one should carry his load (burden).” Galatians 6:4-5
Jesus has given us victory on the cross.
If you have not believed in the Lord Jesus and his sacrifice for your sins, make the decision today. Place your trust in him as Savior and Lord. Jesus has paid the penalty for sin. In Him, the power to overcome sin is given by His Holy Spirit. Jesus already became the scapegoat for our sins on the cross. Satan has no power to make us do anything, except to tempt. But Jesus already overcame for us and defeated the devil on the cross. With Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are more than conquerors!

Are you born again? Do you have eternal life?
Have you given your life to Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? He loves us so much that he, our creator, left heaven and came to earth, dying for us on the cross, taking our sins upon him so that we may be forgiven and receive his righteousness. He conquered death by rising from the dead and made a way for us who were dead in sin to be reconciled back to the Father (God). What’s more, he has prepared a wonderful home for us in heaven, where those who love him and obey him will spend eternity with him. Learn more here about how to be born again and have eternal life after this brief life on earth.
