God’s Seed in a Man Produces God’s Nature
As born-again creatures in Christ, we have God’s seed abiding in us and are born of him. This means we have God’s DNA/nature. We cannot then continue producing the corrupt life of the old man. The old nature produces sin because its nature is sin. In Christ, however, our nature has been changed to be like God’s. That is what redemption means: we are new creatures!
We have not received a theoretical salvation, but the power to become sons of God. Anything short of this may mean we have not truly been born again. We become regenerated when we believe in Christ and receive the Holy Spirit.
“Anyone born of God (regenerated) refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed (this means sperm) abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of (by) God (we have new birth).” 1 John 3:9
It is impossible to be truly born again and live a lifestyle of sin; it is just not possible. Speaking in tongues, prophesying, preaching, singing, casting out demons, rolling on the floor, and so forth are not the signs of SONSHIP; righteousness is. Experiences that are devoid of the life of Christ are counterfeit.
God’s Nature Cannot Produce the Fruit of Sin in Us
The sons of God behave like God; they bear his fruit, which is holiness. It is not that a born-again Christian never sins, but it is not their habitual or normal state. The new creatures in Christ do not dwell in sin since their nature has changed. They are progressively becoming more Christ-like day by day by the quickening Spirit of God dwelling in them.
“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” Colossians 3:10
The nature of the sons of God is averse to sin. Righteousness is their default state. And if they do sin (1 John 1:8-9), they repent and abide in their true state, which is righteousness.
Someone practicing sin as a lifestyle is not born again. They may have had some religious experience, but they are not born again. God’s nature in a man is not carnal.
“And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4:24
Spiritual Gifts Are Not Evidence of God’s Seed in a Man
We live at a time when Christians value the gifts of the Spirit over the fruit and life of the Spirit. The gifts of God are irrevocable and do not validate a man. Satan, too, has duplicate gifts that mimic the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Satan, too, has prophecies, tongues, miracles, and pseudo-healings, but he has no fruit of the Holy Spirit. The devil is wicked and cannot produce righteousness and true holiness in anyone.
Do not be impressed by gifts and spiritual manifestations. Jesus warned us over and over about producing fruit. If you want to know a true Christian, you will know them by their fruit. The fruit of righteousness and holiness will be in their lives. That is what the Lord Jesus himself looks for, and not gifts. The Lord Jesus wants to see his nature and life in us; that is what he died to give us.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’” Matthew 7:21-23
The Children of God and the Children of the Devil Are Known by Their Nature
The apostle John says boldly that he who practices sins is a child of the devil. There is a clear distinction between the children of God and of the devil. Their nature and the fruit they produce are the distinction. The children of God produce righteousness, and those of the devil produce sin.
“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” 1 John 3:8-10
Jesus came to deliver us from the kingdom of darkness to that of light, to turn us from the power of Satan to God. He was manifested to destroy the works of the devil, of which sin is chief. He came to turn sinners into saints. Have you been born again? Look to him, for he will do it. Believe in him, call upon him, and he will make you a son of God.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” John 1:12
