The Glorious Liberty of the Children of God

The root cause of most human problems and suffering is sin. Sin places people in yokes of bondage, misery, dysfunction, and slavery. Solutions offered by the world and most religions revolve around dealing with the symptoms of sin and “trying” to be a good person, but cannot deal with the ROOT, which is the sin nature in all mankind. Sin has an insidious effect on all creation since sin is not purely personal. We are all very much affected by one another’s sins.

The sin nature we all inherit from Adam ensures we are slaves to sin, whether we want to or not. Apostle Paul, in the book of Romans, which has the greatest teachings on sin, its causation, and its cure, says, “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.” Romans 7:19-20

The problem of sin and the solution to sin are what distinguish Christianity from all other religions. Only Jesus offers a permanent solution to the corrupt nature in man through the work of the cross.

Jesus Christ is the only person who has provided a permanent solution to the sin problem. The death and resurrection of Jesus permanently rendered sin powerless in the body. In his body, Jesus dealt with the power of sin, and at his resurrection, he defeated the power of death and hell once and for all. The Bible says he took the keys of death and hell.

Jesus puts to death the sin nature in those who believe in him and his work on the cross and his atonement. He imputed his righteousness on that one, he believes.

“For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh.” Romans 8:3

The person who repents of the old life and believes fully in Jesus is given NEW BIRTH and made a NEW CREATION. This new creation is not a figure of speech but an actual regeneration that happens to the sinner when the Spirit of Jesus comes to reside in him. He is made brand new.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

The old desires and lusts are crucified with Christ, and he is given a new nature that’s no longer under slavery to sin but a slave to righteousness. It is a spiritual rebirth that’s real and effective.

“We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.” Romans 6:6

God’s nature in the true Christian makes him one who no longer desires sin but yearns for righteousness since his nature has been changed. The yoke of bondage is broken by Jesus in those who trust him. The chains of captivity to sin, dysfunction, the lusts of the flesh, and worldliness are dealt with as one continues to abide in the life-giving vine that is Christ Jesus. The fruit of the Christian is righteousness and holiness.

“I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.” Romans 6:19

Every day in the Christian who continues to abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit continues this sanctifying work, transforming him to be like Christ from glory to glory until the end, when the Christian’s final redemption occurs at the resurrection of the physical body.

This is what God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit accomplish in the born-again children of God. It is a glorious and powerful work that cannot be done any other way. And this is why Jesus boldly can claim to be the ONLY WAY to the Father; he is the only one who came down from heaven to redeem man and the only one who transforms sinners into saints and qualifies them for heaven. He does the work. What a glorious savior!

The Christian life is not one of “trying” to be moral; it is one of rebirth and recreation. We cannot be purely moral people on our own because we have a corrupt nature. Jesus dealt with the sin problem on the cross, and he said, “It is finished!”

Have you experienced this new life? It’s available for whosoever comes to him by faith!

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.” Galatians 6:15

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration (new birth) and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5

“If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4:21-24

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” Colossians 3:9-10

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2
