Rest in Peace Only Comes from Jesus Christ
The true and final judge at death is JESUS CHRIST and not men.
In this world, in almost every culture, there is a tendency for death to be a time when men speak well of you. If you had extraordinary good works and earthly successes, people would automatically hail you as having gone to heaven. But unfortunately, this is not how it works in truth. Men do not get to decide who has gone to heaven based on popular opinion or human estimation, which is generally faulty. Only God is the righteous judge, and he has made the way to heaven extremely clear without any ambiguity.
“Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
There is only one qualification for heaven: FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God, who made atonement for mankind’s sins by his blood. Jesus, by his own confession, is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. He said, “NO MAN comes to the father but by me.” He is the resurrection and the life. He says only those who believe in Him will never die but live eternally with Him.
To believe in Jesus is not lip service, and neither is it head knowledge. It is an actual turning away from sin and any other means of salvation, casting oneself at the mercy of Jesus alone, trusting fully that he has made atonement for your sins by his blood and paid the price for your sin. In return, you receive his righteousness, and he, the Father, and the Holy Spirit make their home in you. You are born again as a child of God. This is a real transformation and not just theory.
The person who has been born again has the Spirit of Jesus living in him, and the Spirit witnesses to him that he is a child of God. The Holy Spirit is the seal that distinguishes the children of God from the children of this world, and He only inhabits those who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the exclusive way to God
The one who truly believes in Jesus cannot trust in other gods or other idols or other paths to heaven. It is impossible. Jesus is exclusive. To add anything else to Jesus is blasphemy. Only He is the way to life eternal and peace with God. The person who has placed their faith in Jesus for redemption is the only person who rests in peace at death.
Does Jesus know us? This is what will give us safe passage after we die and give us confidence when we stand before God on judgment day. Jesus knows those who are his.
All the nice words from men and all the evil words from men after we die mean nothing because no human can give another entrance to heaven. Our focus should always be to be known by Jesus Christ by obedience to him and thereby be at peace with him. He is the righteous one and the one the Father has appointed to judge the living and the dead.
Make no mistake, each one of us shall go to one of two places when we leave these bodies at death: Hades (hell), the place of torment, or heaven, the place of rest.
And then on the final judgment, those in hell shall be cast into the lake of fire after standing before Jesus Christ to receive their life reviews and final sentence, and those who trusted in Jesus will live in the new Jerusalem in their glorified bodies with God forever.
“The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.” John 3:35
God has given Jesus all power. Not only did Jesus create the world (John 1:3, Colossians 1:16), he died for the world as an act of great love and mercy (John 3:16, John 1:29, 1 John 2:2, Romans 3:25, 1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5-6, Hebrews 2:17, etc.), and he shall return to judge the world based on what we did with his great sacrifice for sins on the cross (Acts 17:31, John 5:22, Revelation 20:11-15, Romans 2:16, etc.).
“Because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:31
“For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son.” John 5:22
“In the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.” Romans 2:16
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things that were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:11-15
Knowing all this, then, we should tremble before this great God and seek to be known by him rather than men.
He has made the way back to himself clear. It is a way provided by his great love for us through his son Jesus Christ the righteous. If we reject him, then we have rejected the only means of salvation and shall be separated from God for all eternity by our own choice, because he has said sinners and rebels cannot enter his holy kingdom.
May we seek the true rest in peace that comes through Jesus Christ and not empty human clichés.
