True Holiness Is the Fruit of Abiding in Christ
We cannot be holy by our own efforts and works. If we wish to be truly holy, we must ABIDE IN CHRIST. He is the true vine, and we are branches. Holiness is who he is. When we abide in him and remain in loving and obedient fellowship with him, his life will flow through us as the life of the vine flows through the branches. And his life is HOLY.
He said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:4-5
We cannot bear the fruit of righteousness and holiness by ourselves or by following a list of do’s, don’ts, and demands; it will become too burdensome and impossible. Christ says we cannot bear any fruit unless we abide in him. The branch does not bear fruit by itself; it receives life from the vine.
As we abide in Christ and his word abides in us, his life will flow through us effortlessly because he is the only one who is holy. Paul says, “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” Galatians 2:20
It is Christ that lives in us. “Ye are dead, and your life is God with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3
“Come unto me and I will give you rest.”
If we try to produce holiness apart from abiding in Christ, we will wither and die. God cannot accept any holiness that is not Christ’s or is separated from Christ and is solely the work of man.
“If a man abides not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered; and men gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” John 15:7
Are you burdened and exhausted with TRYING to be holy? Come to Christ, and he will give you rest. He did not start the work for you so that you would finish it yourself. He is the author and finisher of your faith. Abide in him and rest in him. True holiness comes from oneness with Christ, from intimacy with the one that’s Holy.
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 28:28-30
“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” 1 Corinthians 6:17
