Salvation Is Free; Heaven Is Conditional on Obedience
Salvation is free and open to all, but entering heaven is conditional on obedience.
Any sinner who repents and turns to Jesus will be accepted by Grace through faith; salvation is free to all. But entering heaven is for those who continue in the faith in holiness, HOLY after salvation. Faith alone is not enough for heaven; that faith must be accompanied by WORKS of righteousness. James said, “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:17). The Lord Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
To do God’s will is to obey him. It is not enough to confess Jesus with the mouth; we must prove it with our lives and deeds. Jesus said, “If you love me, KEEP my commandments” (John 14:15). The idea that once saved means we can never lose our salvation and will enter heaven no matter how we live is a lie from the pits of hell. All through the New Testament, the conditionality of entering heaven is taught by both Jesus and his apostles. Jesus talked about enduring to the end to be saved. Paul, Peter, and John constantly warned of the possibility of losing our salvation if we do not watch, exercise godly discipline, and live holy lives.
Jesus said we must strive to enter heaven (Luke 13:24) and pray to be accounted worthy (Luke 21:36). Heaven is not a guarantee. It is a purposeful decision we have to make every day to please God; otherwise, the Lord himself said some names will be blotted out of the book of life (Revelation 3:5). Take heed that no man deceive you with false doctrines that keep you comfortable in sin hiding behind God’s grace. God’s grace is available to help us live holy, not to justify and excuse sin. Remember, it is God’s word that shall judge us after death (John 12:48), and God’s word can never be abolished or changed by human beings; it is established forever.
“There is a judge for the one who rejects Me and does not receive My words: The word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.” John 12:48
“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” Revelation 3:5
