Come Out From Among Them and Be Ye Separate
The true Christian life is an affront to the world because Christians are CALLED OUT.
“Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17
“called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
They are born again into new creatures who no longer are like the rest of the creatures of the world. They are born of God and not of flesh and blood.
“children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.” John 1:13
They are peculiar strangers. They do behave like the rest of the world in their speech, conduct, or appearance.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar (special) people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
Their affections are not in this world anymore. All their ambitions and hard work are no longer just for life on earth but an investment in their home country. Their priorities have changed.
“Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” Colossians 3:1-4
They are ambassadors of their home country and not of this temporary country. They live to please their king, a king the world does not recognize, and so the world often hates them because their loyalties are not where the world’s loyalties lie.
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
“Beloved, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul.” 1 Peter 2:11
The true Christians will always be hated by the world because they are not of it and testify of it that its works are evil.
“If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first. If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.” John 15:18-19
