Drunkards shall not Inherit the Kingdom of God

What does the word of God have to say about drunkards? Alcohol has become a major issue the world over and many are enslaved by it. Alcohol destroys the body, soul, spirit, destinies, communities, families, and nations. I was once one of these people, heading to hell fast on an alcoholic first-class ticket. I knew I was going to die if I kept on drinking past that June 2022. A voice that I know is the Holy Spirit kept telling me that I was going to die. I was in terrible torment because I had tried everything to quit for years, but nothing worked.

At that time, towards the end of my drinking, I was getting blackouts while awake. There was a war happening in the spirit realm for my soul and I could feel it. I knew that demons would take over my body when I drank and did strange things with it because I would disappear (blackout) and come to my senses while in the middle of these acts wondering what I was doing and how I got there. But Jesus took pity on me when I finally surrendered this sin to him and asked him to save me from this horrible addiction while in my first week in rehab.

Drunkards are not sick, they are sinners!

One of the biggest lies touted in the world today and in the alcohol recovery industry is that alcoholism is a disease. But this is contrary to the word of God which calls drunkenness a sin and work of the flesh. Alcoholism is not a disease, it is a sin. I know this is not a popular thing to hear in a world where sins are now diseases and disorders. This is a lie Satan came up with so that no one takes alcoholism with the eternal seriousness it deserves. Alcohol is one of Satan’s biggest weapons to take drunkards to hell.

You see, when you think alcoholism is a disease you only think of its consequences here on earth. You never have to repent to God for it. It makes it palatable. But it is not palatable. It’s a grave sin. one that the word of God mentions both in the Old Testament and New Testament as detestable to God. The Apostle Paul mentions twice that drunkards shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. He mentions drunkards among fornicators, sorcerers, murderers, liars, and such like people.

“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; / idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, / and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21

No unclean thing shall enter heaven

I know so many friends, acquaintances, and people I drank with who have died over the years because of alcohol. Most of them were younger than me and died prematurely in terrible ways: suicide, bar fights, car accidents, organ failure, and so forth. Where are they now? If the bible is true, and God is not a liar, their souls are in hell today. Except a man is born again, he cannot enter God’s kingdom. The truly born-again can not be drunkards. It is impossible.

We need to fear God. We can no longer live in deception, ignorance, and denial. Our souls are too precious. Hell is a terrible place, and certainly not one to gamble with and take risks with. If we do not treat this sin with the seriousness the word of God takes it with, we will comfort ourselves right into hell! Drunkards shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. God said it, not I, and God does not lie.

Do not deceive yourself

No one can claim to be born again and heading to heaven who is counted among drunkards. He says no unclean thing shall enter heaven. Does anyone need convincing that drunkenness and alcohol in general is a filthy habit and lifestyle? Nothing good comes from it.

Alcohol is a gateway sin that opens the door for so many other sins and acts that God detests: fornication, adultery, lust, waste, laziness, theft, fighting, revelry, licentiousness, lying, hatred, betrayals, hurting family members, death (through car accidents and impaired judgment), suicide and so forth. Even the ‘nicest’ person who drinks becomes a liar and nuisance once they drink. These are not the qualities of heaven’s citizens. Do not be deceived. God has said NO drunkards will enter heaven and that leaves no exception. Let God be true and every man a liar.

Drunkards destroy God’s temple

Alcohol destroys the body, soul, and spirit. The Bible tells us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Can the Holy Spirit be comfortable with a body filled with alcohol? Alcohol is a poison. The person who drinks alcohol destroys God’s temple, he brings sickness, disease, and wounds to his body. He damages his liver, heart, stomach, skin, kidneys, mind, brain, etc. He damages his mind so that he cannot think, speak, or act coherently and makes a fool of himself. That is not the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is HOLY.

Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit

The drunkard has no excuse because he takes the bottle himself and puts it to his lips. Drunkenness is not a disease, it is a sin. It is a choice one makes. In the beginning, he makes the choices and then finally the alcohol which is a demonic spirit, controls him. God says he will destroy whoever destroys the body because God’s body is holy. We have no right to ingest what damages us. When we do this, we become children of the devil who comes to “steal, kill, and destroy.” John 10:10

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; / you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“If anyone destroys God’s templeGod will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and that is what you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

Hear that! God himself says he will destroy anyone who destroys his temple. The alcoholic should fear and tremble and get on his knees before God.

“What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

Can God and alcohol cohabit in the same body? God forbid! He is holy, and alcohol is profane!

Drunkards need to repent

“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Paul says: “Such were some of you, But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” That is what the drunkards need. They, as much as other sinners need to be washed, sanctified, and justified. And this only happens through the Lord Jesus, the savior of the world. He washes white as snow!

The cure for drunkards is repentance

God can forgive, deliver, and save any drunkards who come to him sincerely. Nothing is impossible with him. The problem is that many drunkards love their drinking more than they love their souls. They make excuses for their drinking and will not surrender it to God. Some love it unto death.

The only person who can permanently set you free from demonic slavery and bondage to alcohol is Jesus Christ because he is the only one who has power over demons, sin, and death. Trying to quit by willpower never lasts, Call it a disease is a cop-out. As long as the root of the sin is not removed, drunkards usually resign themselves to a life of relapsing, or calling themselves alcoholics, which is not much freedom!

But Jesus delivers to the uttermost. He did it for me and I am not special. Try him, he never fails. When I cried out to him that day he instantly removed all desire to drink and it has never returned. Not only does Jesus deliver from all types of sin, addictions, and bondage, but he delivers from an eternity of separation from God which is what Satan wants! Humble yourself before the Lord and he will save you!

What will it profit you to gain the whole world, and lose your soul in the end?

Satan is a master deceiver. He is after your soul. It is to his benefit that you stay drunk and never think about the fate of your soul after leaving this earth. Alcohol leads to demonic escapism; it is a trap. Satan has no problem offering sinful pleasures as long as he gains your soul after death. He does not want to go to the lake of fire alone.

Proverbs 31:6 says “Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart. Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more. What a sad state! Alcohol is for those who are perishing. It leads you to think you are forgetting your misery but keeps the worst misery waiting for you after death!

Jesus asked, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Mark 8:36

I ask you the same thing. What shall it profit you to drink all the alcohol, destroy your body, mind, life, and other people’s lives here on earth, and then lose your soul in the end? Is it worth it? Do the math. Satan is a thief. What you gain is nothing. You’re on the losing end. You have been deceived. Proverbs 20:1 says, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by them is not wise.”

Count the eternal cost

Sit down and think of what alcohol has and will cost you, not only in this life and that to come. It will make you upset and hopefully upset enough to turn to the only one who has good plans for you, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for your sins. He came that you may have life in abundance. It is not God’s will that people die premature terrible deaths because of what they thought would give them pleasure. It is a death trap! Save yourself from this crooked generation. Strong drink is for perishing. You do not have to perish!

Just call out to Jesus and ask him to help you like a drowning man would, and he will!

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” Psalms 34:6

“Turn to me and be saved, all who live at the ends of the earth, because I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22
