Grace Is Not a License to Sin

Grace teaches us to say NO to ungodliness; it does not make provision for sin.

Many Christians have been erroneously taught or believe that God is no longer judging sin in the New Testament and they can live how they wish and enter heaven. Grace is not a license to sin. God cannot change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He swore by himself, “For I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). What God hated in the old covenant, he still hates. God does not change like humans and hate sin and then accept it again.

Jesus did not come to die to excuse sin and give us license to sin. That is twisting of scripture and abuse of grace. He came to make it POSSIBLE for us to live holy because in the new covenant his SPIRIT now lives inside of us and his blood washes us from sin. In the new covenant, once we truly get born again, we are transformed and renewed and become new creations through the rebirth by the Spirit of holiness.

We are changed into sons of God who can now obey God. We have something better than the old covenant people who depended on the blood of bulls and goats, which could not cleanse their conscience or change their sin nature. We have received a superior covenant with better promises, and now we can be holy and please God by his grace.

Any teachings claiming that now we are free to sin and violate God’s commands, including those in the Old Testament, are demonic and false. God’s standards are even higher in the new covenant, and we see that in the teachings of Jesus in the gospel. The only thing that was abolished was the sacrificial and ceremonial laws, which pointed to Christ and have been fulfilled since Christ is the final sin offering who died ONCE and was perfect. God’s moral laws will never change.

Jesus came to fulfill the law so that now he expects our righteousness to EXCEED that of the Pharisees and scribes and the old covenant.

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:11-14

“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20
