He Who Endures to the End Shall Be Saved
We are not saved once for all; salvation is not an event. We are saved (justification), being saved (sanctification), and shall be saved (glorification) when we receive our resurrected bodies. Salvation has a beginning, and an ending. That’s why Jesus is called the author and finisher of our faith and why he asked us to endure to the end to be saved.
Work out YOUR OWN salvation with fear and trembling
We are not called to work out other people’s salvation but our own (Philippians 2:12). We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ alone to give an account, not with our pastors, wives, husbands, children, or closest ones. Each one shall give an account of himself and receive his own reward for what he has done in the body (2 Corinthians 5:10).
In that day of judgment, no one will remember the other, as each one shall be alone before his Maker. Another man’s salvation will not save but your own. Church membership will not save, but one’s state before God, who knows all hearts.
Paul said, “I beat my flesh and bring it under subjection lest after preaching to others, I myself become a castaway (1 Corinthians 9:27).”
He who endures to the end shall be saved.
It is not how we start beloved brethren, but how we finish. Jesus said that it is he who ENDURES to the end that will be saved (Matthew 24:13). Many will not finish, and many will finish badly.
The end of a thing is better than the beginning (Ecclesiastes 7:8). Jesus said the last would be first and the last first (Matthew 20:16). It’s therefore not the years of our salvation that matter, but the salvation in our years.
Jesus tells us to hold fast to what we have so that no man takes our crown from us (Revelation 3:11).
Now is the day of salvation
Jesus says to return to our first love and first works (Revelation 2:4-5). Salvation is not a historical matter; it is a daily walk. We must pick up our crosses DAILY and follow him (Luke 9:23).
NOW is the day of salvation and not yesterday ( 2 Corinthians 6:2 ). It is today that matters. Are we still in the faith? Paul says to examine ourselves to see if we are still in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). He says to take heed if we think we are standing, lest we fall (1 Corinthians 10:12).
We must fix our eyes on Jesus only every day (Hebrews 12:2) and work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12), remembering that our salvation has a culmination.
We are saved, being saved, and shall be saved
We are not saved once and for all, salvation is not an event. We are saved, being saved, and shall receive our final salvation when we leave our bodies still in the faith. The resurrection is the culmination of our salvation. We are still in the race; we have not finished yet, and so we must gird up our loins (1 Peter 1:13) and run with perseverance the race set before us (Hebrews 12;1).
Our eyes must be fixed firmly on the hope set before us (Hebrews 6:18) and the end goal, which is the salvation of our souls and inheriting the kingdom of God. The future aspect of our salvation should keep us persevering.
While we are in the body we fight because we have an enemy that’s determined that none of us enter that glorious city, which he will never enter again. Our enemy does not slumber, and we mustn’t either.
“5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time…7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:5, 7-9
“And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11
