Makeup, Jewelry, Women’s Trousers: History and Fallen Angel Origins
What does God think about women using makeup, jewelry, and wearing trousers? Does the bible speak on these things?
This article aims to provide information I have gathered over the years on the topics of makeup, adornment, jewelry, women’s trousers, and head-covering from the scriptures, church history, and early church fathers’ teachings. If you would like to do more study on this topic, hopefully, this article will provide a lot of resources and scriptures.
Please Note: This article is not to judge anyone, impose my beliefs, or understanding of scripture, or tell you how to dress, but to give you information to ponder, both from scripture, church history, and world history, to consider and make the decision for yourself.
In 2023, when the Lord was teaching me about this topic, I did a lot of study and research. I came across many revelations online of people across the world who claimed to have been taken to hell by the Lord, and showed that the use of makeup, jewelry, trousers, and artificial adornments leads women to hell. I was troubled by these revelations and wanted to know the truth so that I would not disobey God in ignorance.
I did not just depend on people’s visions and revelations because that is not enough of a defense of truth, but I studied all the scriptures I could find on the topic, and also studied lots of materials on what the early church fathers taught and what the early church practiced and believed on these matters. I have also listened to countless sermons on the subject from preachers of old to try and understand God’s heart on this matter.
After all this research, I was personally convinced and convicted to change the way I was dressing and to stop using makeup, jewelry, and all artificial items of beauty, and also to stop wearing trousers because, from my research, I learned that trousers were originally only made for men and were unanimously agreed to be men’s wear until the women’s rights movement of the late 1800s (the design itself with the opening at the front was for male functionality purposes). This is what convinced me that trousers are solely men’s wear and wearing them violates God’s warning against cross-dressing (Deuteronomy 22:5). Since I changed the way I dress in 2023, it has changed my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined, all positive. You can read my testimony on this subject here.
Again, as scripture tells us, test all things. Test everything based on God’s word and then ask God to guide you into all truth because only he matters.
Makeup and jewelry: Fallen angel origins
Did you know that according to the Book of Enoch, fallen angels—specifically Azazel, one of Lucifer’s chief leaders of the revolt against God—first taught human women about makeup, ornaments, and jewelry? Azazel is the head of the angels who plotted against the Lord, impregnated the daughters of men, and introduced humans to forbidden knowledge.
“And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.” 1 Enoch 8:1-2
Below is a quote from Tertullian, an early church father (160 AD-240 AD), on this matter:
“But, if the self-same angels who disclosed both the material substances of this kind and their charms — of gold, I mean, and lustrous stones — and taught men how to work them, and by and by instructed them, among their other (instructions), in (the virtues of) eyelid-powder and the dyeings of fleeces, have been condemned by God, as Enoch tells us, how shall we please God while we joy in the things of those (angels) who, on these accounts, have provoked the anger and the vengeance of God?” Tertullian On the Apparel of Women 2.10
Makeup is a falsehood and deception.
Makeup is a falsehood, and just the idea of it is all about changing what God created or trying to enhance it, which is a slap in God’s face. God gave us hair, nails, and body features that reflect his glory. When we try to change them, we tell God that what he made was not good enough. God made man in his image and said all his works were good. He does not need any correction.
What is added to the image of God to enhance or make it more beautiful, supposedly, is the image of Satan, the father of all lies. Nature itself is not guilty of this, and animals never try to change themselves or enhance themselves. Even these products themselves are rightly called fake hair, fake lashes, fake nails, and makeup, betraying their nature.
- Makeup: They make something up. Something made up is not real or original. Wearing a false face is practicing falsehood, which is a sin. No liar shall enter God’s kingdom. God does not recognize false faces since he didn’t make them.
- Fake: These false beauty parts are called “fake” or “false” even by the world because that’s what they are. False eyelashes, fake hair, false nails, and artificial eyebrows. Some women nowadays even tattoo on fake eyebrows.
- Painting and dyeing: painting the face with foundations, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, skin bleaching creams, and hair dye is falsehood. It is giving yourself a false appearance and changing what God has made. God gave you dark skin, and you give yourself brown skin. God gave you grey hair because you are aging, and he calls it glory, but you dye it black. God gave you black hair, but you dye it maroon.
These things do not please God at all because they correct his work, they defile the temple of the Holy Spirit, they corrupt the image of God and replace it with another image, and they also ultimately destroy what God has made.
When women use fake body parts and makeup, they are ungrateful and liars before God, and the Bible says liars and those who practice falsehood cannot enter the kingdom of God (Revelation 22:5, Revelation 21:8). Additionally, these practices are rooted in vanity, pride, lust, and wanting to appear as you are not, to be admired by people. Vanity and pride are sins.
Women who are NOT born again can do all these things since they are still in darkness, don’t have the spirit of God, and are under the power of the wicked one. But the born-again daughters of God who have his seed and spirit in them must abstain from Satan’s products and made-up faces and all falsehoods and honor their father’s creation, who says he has made them fearfully and wonderfully. Stop correcting God. Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world.
“But outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood (maketh a lie).” Revelation 22:15:
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” Deuteronomy 22:5
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” Genesis 1:31
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

Jewelry and idolatry
The matter of jewelry is also connected to idolatry.
When God told Jacob to go and worship him at Bethel, he told his household to put away the strange gods they had and be clean (purify themselves) and change their garments (Genesis 35:1-5). Among the things they got rid of and buried were the EARRINGS in their ears. This is the first clear scripture in the Bible that jewelry was a form of pagan idolatry.
These were things Jacob’s wives and household carried from Padan-aram, the Aramean pagan land where God took Abraham from to make him his special nation. They buried the earrings together with the idols they had, and then they were clean. It was only then the terror of God came upon the surrounding cities. Jacob also asked them to change their garments, proving some forms of clothes are not pleasing to God, mainly those that reveal one’s nakedness, as we see in all scripture.
God repeats the same thing concerning jewelry to Israel at Mount Horeb centuries later with Moses. He tells them to get rid of their ornaments (jewels) so that he could speak to them and not consume them, as they were stiff-necked (Exodus 33:1-6). These are the jewels they carried from Egypt, with which they made the golden calf and became defiled before God (Exodus 32:1-4). God didn’t ask them to carry these ornaments from Egypt for vanity and bodily decoration but for wealth and trade.
In Judges 8:24-27, Gideon collects golden earrings from Ishmaelites (idolatrous pagans) to make an ephod. Later Israel committed whoredom with it. In fact, the book says they had GOLDEN EARRINGS BECAUSE they were ISHMAELITES, proving that God’s people were not part of these things.
All through the Bible we see that jewelry and bodily ornaments had pagan idolatrous origins and were used to honor pagan deities, and they were a stench to God, and he didn’t like his people copying and partaking in these things because it always turned their hearts from him. God can never accept pagan items and later sanctify them. In the New Testament Paul and Peter both repeat this command for women not to use jewelry in 1 Peter 3:3 and 1 Timothy 2:9 in their instructions to the churches as apostles and fathers.
“And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their EARRINGS which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.” Genesis 35:1-5
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Depart and go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’ And I will send My Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.’ And when the people heard this bad news, they mourned, and no one put on his ORNAMENTS. For the Lord had said to Moses, ‘Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a STIFF-NECKED PEOPLE. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now therefore, TAKE OFF YOUR ORNAMENTS, that I may know what to do to you.’ So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb.” Exodus 33:1-6
“And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had GOLDEN EARRINGS, because they were ISHMAELITES.) And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey. And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks. And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a WHORING after it: which thing became a SNARE unto Gideon, and to his house.” Judges 8:24-27
“Whose adorning let it NOT BE that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of (fine) apparel.” 1 Peter 3:3
“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; NOT WITH broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.” 1 Timothy 2:9
Wedding rings
I found this great article with information on the origins of wedding rings. Needless to say, these do not please God, and God never initiated them to solemnize weddings. These are pagan symbols of pagan origin. God makes it clear in his word that we should not worship him the way the pagan nations do. “Do not worship the Lord your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods.” Deuteronomy 12:4
“The wedding ring is first a circle which is said to mean eternal or unending. Marriages were never eternal in the Scriptures but rather until death. Afterward a spouse could be married again. The idea then of eternal marriages symbolised by the ring is not Biblical. This meaning of the ring is false. So the ring gives a false testimony. The wedding ring then is not representative of the true union of the bridegroom and his bride. The home of the couple is more a witness and testimony of marriage then a wedding ring. For it is in the home the marriage is honored and sustained.
The wedding ring originated in Babylon, the cradle of civilization. The most ancient ring discovered there is in the shape of the eternal serpent. The image of the serpent biting its tail to form the circle of the ring is an ancient satanic symbol (***satanic ouroboros). The same symbol is used by the Theosophy Cult. Satan as the serpent, that great dragon of Revelation 12, has by this symbol joined a man and a woman under his cult. God is not the serpent symbol of any wedding ring, nor is he the symbol of the wedding ring in any fashion. We may trace the ring not to the God of the Bible but to the accuser of the brethren. Where is there any ring that symbolizes God? Did God provide wedding rings for Adam and Eve? Remove this idolatrous symbol from the Church and the Pastor is accused of being legalistic, against marriage, encouraging adultery and lust. The Pastor’s Church is labeled a cult. The fact is, over 70% of married spouses who commit fornication do not remove their wedding rings prior to the act, during the act, or after the act. Wedding rings have not stopped one act of adultery. Women’s trousers and pants
“However, for much of modern history, the use of trousers has been restricted to men. This norm was enforced in many regions due to social customs and laws. There are, however, many historical cases of women wearing trousers in defiance of these norms such as the 1850s women rights movement, comfort, freedom of movement, fashion, disguise (notably for runaway slaves [2]), attempts to evade the gender pay gap, and attempts to establish an empowered public identity for women.” Quote from Wikipedia, Trousers as women’s clothing
There was no idea about women’s trousers until around the 1850s, when the women’s rights movements and dress reform movements began in rebellion against social norms and cultures. Before that, in much of the world, women wore dresses and skirts to distinguish themselves from men, and they were content with it. The symbols in public restrooms until now display gender differences, with men in pants and women in dresses. Harlots and rebellious women throughout history are the ones who wore trousers but faced open criticism for cross-dressing because they were rebellious women. A few women in the arts also wore trousers in theater plays to act as men (but Christians stayed away from such arts and activities completely and considered them falsehoods and immoral). Acting was not considered a profession for Christians because it was deemed a falsehood and associated with immorality, idolatry, and vice.
In the Old Testament times, both men and women wore robes, but the robes were made so that it was clear which were men’s and which were women’s. God discouraged cross-dressing even then and wanted men and women to dress differently even though they both wore robes (Deuteronomy 22:5). Exodus 28:42, Ezekiel 44:8, Leviticus 16:4, Leviticus 6:10, and Daniel 3:21 make mention of men wearing trousers, but there is no scripture of women wearing trousers or breeches, proving that trousers were men’s garments (these verses are quoted further down).
So the age-old prohibition of trousers for women came from the original intent behind the creation of trousers and their original use for centuries; they were known unanimously to be men’s clothing. The design of pants with the zipper at the crotch area also proves this.
Women largely did not wear trousers for hundreds of years; women wore dresses and skirts. It was only during the women’s rights (feminism) movement of the late 1800s that women began to revolt and demand to wear trousers as an act of rebellion by feminists in a changing world; this was greatly frowned upon by the society as a whole, made up of both Christians and non-Christians, because trousers were unanimously agreed upon to be men’s clothing. Over time, women in trousers have become widely accepted and have become normal even in the church, but there was a time when this was greatly frowned upon.
God desires distinction among the sexes even in dress.
The issue of the sexes being distinct and separate, even in dress, goes back to creation, where God made them male and female and wanted their natures distinct and clear, perpetually to bring him honor, and also to display the clear difference in roles, function, and authority between men (head) and women (helper), which was ordained by God himself. When men and women dress alike, these lines are blurred. This was so serious that cross-dressing is considered an abomination in scripture (Deuteronomy 22:5).
When the sexes start getting mixed up, gender roles and headship structure in society, church, and home, as God ordained it, get destroyed. The result is the breakdown and chaos we can now see in the gender redefinition agenda that’s happening worldwide, the growing popularity of the LGBTQ+ movement, family breakdown and collapse, and societal confusion with women wanting to be like men in all respects and men losing their God-given masculinity and ability to lead.
The increase in adornment, makeup, and fake beauty products is a sign of the last days.
Jesus warned that in the last days, the love of many would grow cold (Matthew 24:12) and the great falling away from the faith would happen (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3). I am convinced that the issue of women’s dressing, adornment, and head covering (1 Corinthians 11) is not being taught in much of the body of Christ anymore because the church at large has become lukewarm and worldly, unlike the church of the centuries past. Jesus told us this would happen in the last days. Also, we have an adversary working hard to send as many as he can to hell because he knows that his time is short.
I ask you to go through the scriptures and links below for yourself, prayerfully. After all, we all shall give account to the Lord for what we believe and what we do, based on his word only. Jesus said, “If you love me,keep my commands.” John 14:15; “For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18

Cyprian:
“Suppose a painter should depict in colors that rival nature’s the features and form and complexion of some man, and that, when the portrait had been finished with consummate art, another painter should put his hand over it, as if to improve by his superior skill the painting already completed; surely the first artist would feed deeply insulted, and his indignation would be justly roused. Dost thou, then, think that thou wilt carry off with impunity so audacious an act of wickedness, such an insult to God the great artificer? For, granting that thou art not immodest in thy behaviour towards men, and that thou art not polluted in mind by these meretricious deceits, yet, in corrupting and violating what is God’s, thou provest thyself worse than an adulteress. The fact that thou considerest thyself adorned and beautified by such arts is an impeachment of God’s handiwork, and a violation of truth. Listen to the warning voice of the apostle: ‘Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.’ [1 Cor 5.7-8] Now can sincerity and truth continue to exist when what is sincere is polluted, and what is true is changed by meretricious coloring and the deceptions of quackery into a lie? The Lord says, ‘Thou canst not make one hair white or black’ [Matt 5.36]; and dost thou wish to have greater power so as to bring to nought the words of thy Lord? With rash and sacrilegious hand thou wouldst fain change the color of thy hair: I would that, with a prophetic look to the future, thou shouldst dye it the color of flame [!].”
Ambrose:
“Hence arise these incentives to vice, that women, in their fear that they may not prove attractive to men, paint their faces with carefully chosen colors, and then from stains on their features go on to stains on their chastity. What folly it is to change the features of nature into those of a painting, and from fear of incurring their husband’s disapproval, to proclaim openly that they have incurred their own! For the woman who desires to alter her natural appearance pronounces condemnation on herself; and her eager endeavors to please another prove that she has first been displeasing to herself. And what testimony to thine ugliness can we find, O woman, that is more unquestionable than thine own, when thou art afraid to show thyself? If thou art comely why dost thou hide thy comeliness? If thou art plain, why dost thou lyingly pretend to be beautiful, when thou canst not enjoy the pleasure of the lie either in thine own consciousness or in that of another? For he loves another woman, thou desirest to please another man; and thou art angry if he love another, though he is taught adultery in thee. Thou art the evil promptress of thine own injury.”
